My Take: Mayweather vs. McGregor

The date for the megafight is set for August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas.

For over a year the Mayweather-McGregor fight has been in discussion, but no one was sure whether or not it was likely to happen. Well, now it is.

Many are excited, but many others are embarrassed for the sport of boxing, or find this fight to be nonsensical.

My take? Well first and foremost, Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of ALL time, with a record of 49-0, he has gone up against some of the toughest guys on the world.

Mayweather has fought boxers of a high caliber that McGregor has never even been close to fighting.

Don’t get me wrong… McGregor is an incredible MMA fighter and has raised the bar for UFC fighters. But realistically I don’t believe McGregor has fought anyone remotely close in comparison to who Mayweather has.

I believe this will be an easy win for Mayweather, and a big payday for both fighters.

I also believe this megafight is being done only for money, and to attract more people to the boxing and MMA sport.

Boxing and MMA are very different sports. Trust me, I have trained in both.

For the boxing world, it won’t do much. Avid boxing fans call this fight an embarrassment, but truthfully this fight means nothing.  The odds are for Mayweather, so when he wins it will just be a “I told you so” moment.

What if Mayweather loses? He could. If Mcgregor gets lucky, and is able to knock him out and ruin his perfect record of 49-0, and his legacy. However, for the boxing world a Mayweather loss still won’t impact it.

For the MMA world, this fight brings out a positive impact as far as exposure.
